App and physical-print for a quarterly periodical that organizes architectural writing according to place, encouraging readers and contributors to take “literary excursions about space, culture, and design.”
Interface: Web Browser, App, Print Media
Type: Periodical
Scope: UI, UX, Branding
Client: Self-Led, Speculative
Thought of as a speculative project for a small publication, Landmark is developed from a need for architectural writing to become easier to find by publishing through related sets of categories and trends via tags. The app is distilled to a search page and a library of existing, downloaded texts. Printed versions are intended to compliment the digital version of the texts.
The app organizes and publishes architectural writing for academics and practicing architects looking for research on contemporary issues in architecture.
The app interface provides both a light and dark version for accessibility and ease of use. The first page of the app introduces the most recent publication.
Each article is introduced with a portion of the publication cover image. The library is organized according to each publication and its country of subject. The scan function can be used to download the digital versions for each purchase of a physical print via a QR code.
Landmark uses photography as the primary tool for architectural storytelling and journalism, focusing on issues related to ecology. The 22”x17” physical text is printed on heavy white/light grey newsprint.
Each purchase of the physical text comes with both a download of the digitally formatted version as well as the “digital-experience” version, in which the original 22”x17” printed version is scanned and provided digitally. This allows the user to experience the physical quality and formatting of the printed version through the Landmark app.
